A big thank you to all who came down to show their support for Project SpareAttire's preloved clothing flea sale at the Home Club yesterday! Special thanks goes out to the few individuals who lent helping hands in preparing, setting up the stall and moving supplies there and back - you know who you are, we are so grateful for the last minute help rendered :)
The amount we collected through the sales did fall short of our target, although some sources say it is fairly decent for a 5-hour flea event. The good news is, we learnt some precious lessons from the experience, so we want to give it another shot by holding another flea sale soon!
In any case we still have LOADS of good stuff that have yet to be sold :) So look out for our future flea sales on this page!
Meanwhile here are a few pictures from the event yesterday (with more to follow):

Sale Proceeds go to SUN-DAC's Client Welfare Fund
As a Voluntary Welfare Organization, SUN-DAC Centre for the Disabled receives partial funding from private donors, MCYS and NCSS. However, there are certain aspects that do not receive government funding -- and this is where the Client Welfare Fund comes in.
In short, it helps to subsidise transportation costs and short term respite care home stays of needy clients, as well as outings/celebrations organised for them. (More details)
***************
To honour the good work that SUN-DAC has been doing, the SpareAttire Project 2011 wants to support their Client Welfare Fund through a 2nd clothing donation and sale.
Thanks to generous donors, we collected over 90 bags of 2nd hand clothes, which were mostly donated to SUN-DAC's Thift Store.
As for the nice & new pieces (mainly ladies clothes and some accessories), we will be selling them at FLEA.FLY.FLO.FUN Flea Market! The stall is kindly sponsored by organisers of the flea event :)

One more week...
The bunny year has been bounding by very quickly - there has been a little hiatus in site updates these 2 weeks due to the CNY and some overseas travel.
But its now back to business, our donated clothes bags counter now stands at 71. We are counting down the final 8 days till the end of Feb, which is our collection deadline.
Currently we still have 3 pick-ups registered - we will be contacting you shortly! Anyone else who still has clothes to donate, please do let us know by this week to help us in planning for the final round of collection in the coming weekend. Thank you!!

Clothes Sorting (Part II)
One week after our 1st clothes sorting, the number of collected bags have more than doubled - thanks to all you supportive donors and the mounting cleaning frenzy as CNY approaches :)
We embarked on the 2nd round of sorting last Sunday - very much needed since we could no longer walk into the room which we used for storage, since the entire floor was covered with plastic/paper bags of all shapes and sizes. Almost 40 bags were sorted, repacked into red plastic bags and labelled. We were one person down from the previous time, so this time it took two of us about 4.5 hours from start to finish (including 2 short breaks: one to eat ah-balling and another to get my stiff back punched by my ever-energetic project partner).
It was satisfying to see the pile of clothes we plan to sell at the flea market growing, and we are actively looking out for suitable flea markets to sell them at. If anyone has any recommendations (or lobang), we would love to hear from you! (Email us at spare.attire@gmail.com)

Clothes Sorting (Part I)
The bag collection reached the sizeable number of 27 on Friday, so it was high time to get it out of the car (there was almost no more space left except in the driver's seat), and to conduct the first round of sorting.
The original bags were emptied piece by piece, those pieces in poor condition that did not make the cut were thrown away, and the rest were sorted. Here are some "before and after" photos:
All done in 2 hours! (That was the easy part, the tough bit was moving the 27 bags from the car up to the sorting room ;) but that's another story)
Most of the sorted clothes will be going directly to the thrift store, while a small portion of clothes were sifted out from the pile to be sold later at a separate location - brand new/ high street/ designer wear (or those too cute to resist) that we expect to be able to sell at slightly higher prices.
Thank you for all the donations so far - do keep them coming!

It's gathering steam...
It's coming to a week, and the donation pace is clearly picking up (the weekend probably helped too) :)
This is indeed a learning journey on handling the logistics of such a project, but so far it has been working, thankfully, despite some minor hiccups. Good preparation for the next project we'd say!
A special note for donors who drop-off clothes at Sun-dac:
We would very much like to acknowledge you as donors, to update you on sale events and also the final outcome of the project. Do fill up the form at Sun-dac so we can have your contact (Name & Email/hp)! This of course is entirely optional, but we just want to find a way to say thank you.
